LOS ANGELES, CA (October 22, 2015) – Award-winning filmmakers Lisa Klein and Doug Blush recently announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund their new, feature-length documentary film, “The S Word.” Currently in production, this film will shine a light on suicide, the tenth leading cause of death in the United States and a topic that has long been silenced and buried with the lives it’s claimed.
Suicide can certainly be a dark and very emotionally charged subject that requires a great deal of sensitivity to approach. Few understand this as well as director Lisa Klein, who lost both her father and brother to suicide. In an attempt to take an honest look and inspire more openness and discussion on the topic, Klein recently announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to support her independent production of “The S Word,” a documentary exploring suicide in an honest way through the stories suicide attempt survivors, and of the families and friends who have been impacted by losing a love one. Far from a traditional approach, Klein’s vision incorporates positive energy, healing and even humor.
“We feel it’s incredibly important to tell the stories of suicide attempt survivors and people who have lost loved ones to suicide because it’s crucial both to stay connected and to be able talk about suicide without shame or judgment,” commented Klein and Blush about their new work. “Our film will give voice to those who have not only survived, but have courageously transformed their personal struggles into strength and action. From these stories will emerge a mosaic of the humanity that encompasses life, love, humor, triumph and survival. A life worth living. We want people will see how important ‘The S Word’ is and help us finish this movie.”
“The S Word” Kickstarter has set a goal of $58,425 and will run for 30 days beginning Tuesday, October 20th and concluding on Wednesday, November 19th, 2015.
