Quick Pitch

The Unmanned Aerial System (aka Drone) market is at the forefront of innovation and growing rapidly with an annualized growth rate of 20%. Drones present businesses as diverse as agriculture and package delivery with the opportunity to dramatically reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.  But before the full potential of commercialization of drones can be realized, critical safety concerns must be addressed.

In the first three quarters of 2015 alone there has been a 300% increase in near collisions of drones and commercial aircrafts.  The Drone industry is working hard to develop see and avoid technologies to mitigate this risk.  But in doing so, they fail to address a fundamental truth: drones malfunction.  When a drone malfunctions, it leaves its operator’s control.  The drone can continue to fly until it runs out of power or collides with an object.  In addition, this malfunction is often a catastrophic system failure leaving the drone unable to react to aircraft or other objects.

Product/Service Details

Autonomous Innovations (AI) is dedicated to drone safety innovation.  We intend to offer a robust set of solutions within the Drone safety niche. Our intention is to create systems that will complement the efforts of the big names in the Drone industry and further enhance overall safety with respect to civil aviation.  

Our first product, the Drone Virtual Radar System (“DVRs”), is a soft defined platform for smart Unmanned Aerial System (“UAS” or “drone”) anti-collision that can be added to any existing drone platform as a standalone and self-contained device, or integrated into future drone designs as an essential safety oriented sub-assembly. With this platform, the Company strives to provide the means for commercial drone operators to safely fly their equipment within the national airspace, avoiding any costly penalty fees or incidents, and to provide the tools necessary for the FAA to consider allowing drones to fly out of line of sight and in Class B restricted airspace. This will allow for large growth for drone manufacturers and extensive expansion for commercial drone operations.

  • Sep 25, 2015 – Filed provisional patent that covers intellectual property relevant to proof of concept.
  • Aug 19, 2015 – Successfully conducted field testing of first proof of concept system.
  • Jun 01, 2015 – Started development of first proof of concept GUI and ground based software. 
  • May 13, 2015 – Started development of first proof of concept hardware and software for airborne system.

How We’re Different

At AI, we take a fundamentally different approach to drone safety by thinking of drones as machines that can and will fail. Once a failure occurs, there is little one can do to repair the drone from the ground. As such, we are creating bolt on safety solutions that are designed to automatically address the growing safety concerns of civil aviation independently of any drone related system. More importantly, we are creating the tools that put emergency collision avoidance back in the hands of aircraft pilots.  

Our team is uniquely qualified to develop and bring drone safety technologies to market.  Our technical team is composed of pilots with significant experience in both drone manufacturing and product realization.  Our management and board of advisors have a combined 75+ years of experience monetizing innovation.

Anne Zink – Chief Executive Officer/Manager

Anne Zink is an entrepreneur with over twenty five years working with technology companies to monetize disruptive technologies. Among her many unique competencies is expertise at developing the processes, systems, and operational structures to support monetization through multi sales channels. 

 

Ms. Zink spent the last 17 years of her career operating a consulting firm that focused on helping clients monetize disruptive technologies designed to solve problems and create opportunities while delivering value to communities and investors. She was instrumental in helping AT&T and then Lucent launch VoIP, as well as a variety of startups launch what would become cloud computing. Her work with the Unisys Leadership Institute resulted in Unisys developing a $300 Million securities business. Her work in Haiti, modernizing its civil registry, resulted in a strategic project for her clients, and provided Ms. Zink with invaluable experience lobbying the U.S. Government, international governments, and non-governmental agencies. Ms. Zink also currently serves as interim CEO of PocketProtein, Inc., a company that develops liquid protein products for consumers. Ms. Zink led that company in raising more than $4 Million in equity investments; restructured the company to improve ease of doing business and increase appeal to angel investors; insourced raw material acquisition; moved co-packing from California to Florida to improve manufacturing efficiency, which also improved gross margin by 15%; secured retail distribution in over 1200 blue chip retailers; expanded sales strategy to include healthcare and educational sales; and developed a long term product innovation roadmap.

 

Eyal Stein – Chief Technology Officer and Manager

Mr. Stein’s experience and knowledge has aided him in the design and integration of the Mikado Virtual Fly bar 4.0 system into the U.S. market, as well as his efforts in co-developing a cellphone structure inspection system that is currently being successfully used by AerialWorks Specialty Sensor Services. 

 

Eyal Stein has been competitively flying model airplanes, helicopters, and gliders for 22 years. Mr. Stein holds a private pilot license with single engine land, and glider ratings. He studied aircraft aerodynamics and flight control theory at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Mr. Stein holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

 

Abdul Basit – Project Manager

With 20+ Years of experience in Developing Technology and Business Solutions for Commercial entities and Government agencies Mr. Basit is results driven senior technology manager.  

 

Mr Basit’s experience includes developing software, policies and procedures, identifying opportunities, analyzing operations, and developing winning strategies including extensive skills utilizing Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF, Agile, & ETL), ITIL Foundation, SDLC methodology, SOA, and Global processes with the team concept for product development. Very successful in managing highly skilled, cross-functional teams in the design, development, and implementation of leading-edge technology solutions. Skills include enterprise architecture open methods, object oriented methodologies, cloud-computing and web-based implementation platforms. Exceptional communicator with a consultative sales style, strong negotiating skills with a keen client needs assessment aptitude. Years of experience in ICT methodologies converting ideas into solutions, SOA, software engineering, project management, change management, process improvement, proposal development, cost analysis, business process re-engineering, enterprise application integration, HIPPA and FISMA security Risk management frameworks.

Reza Madjidi is an active FAA Systems and Equipment Designated Engineering Representative (software).

Mr. Reza currently also serves as President of ConsuNova, a leading global provider of certification, compliance engineering services, and solutions for safety-critical systems to the aerospace and defense industries. He also provides detailed gap analysis and avionics certification optimization strategies to companies worldwide. Previously, Mr. Madjidi served as the Vice President of Global Services at Atego and was the co-founder of HighRely Inc. With 20+ years of embedded avionics experience including the development of many critical embedded avionics and safety-critical systems, he is considered a leading expert on avionics certification. Mr. Madjidi has consulted with 30+ of the world’s 50 largest aerospace companies. He is also the inventor of various software tools and solution services, including Atego Trace, Atego Check, and widely adopted gap analysis strategies for software and hardware compliance with FAA/EASA standards DO- 178 and DO-254. Mr. Madjidi has a BSc and an MBA, with a focus on avionics software, systems, and hardware development, as well as products.

 

Steven Frank – IP Attorney/Board of Advisors

Steve Frank advises inventors, companies, private-equity investors, and underwriters concerning IP risk evaluation and mitigation, open-source software issues, and transactional events involving intellectual property.

Philip Killey – Board of Advisors

Philip G. Killey is a retired United States Air Force officer. He attained the rank of Major General, and served as Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard, Director of the Air National Guard and Commander of First Air Force. 

 

Killey received his commission in 1963 through Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Upon qualification as an F-4 pilot he was assigned to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. During his career Killey attained the rating of command pilot and flew more than 6,500 hours. His list of military aircraft flown includes the T-37, T-38, F-4, F-100, A-7, F-16 and C-21. From May, 1967 to February, 1968 Killey flew 129 combat missions as an F-4 fighter pilot in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, assigned to the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. He left active duty in 1969 and joined the South Dakota Air National Guard in 1970. He held a variety of training, staff and command positions, including Deputy Commander of the 114th Tactical Fighter Group. In March, 1983 he became Commander of the Group. In March, 1987 Killey was named Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard and promoted to Brigadier General. He served until November, 1988, when he was appointed Director of the Air National Guard and promoted to Major General. Killey served as Director of the Air National Guard until January, 1994, and was acting Chief of the National Guard Bureau from December, 1993 to January, 1994. In January, 1994 Killey was named Commander of First Air Force and Continental United States North American Aerospace Defense Command Region. He was the first National Guard officer to hold this position, and he served until January, 1998. From January, 1998 until retiring in May, 2003 Killey served again as Adjutant General of South Dakota. After retiring from the military Killey was a consultant on government, military and homeland security issues. He was also active in business, including a position on the advisory board of Previstar, Inc.
