Eat Grub Bar: a delicious, protein packed energy boost made with cricket flour, dark chocolate, mango and coconut!

Hello folks,

We are Grub – the edible insect innovators – and today we are asking for your help in launching the new Eat Grub Bar.

The Eat Grub Bar made with cricket flour

Our bar is special, not just because it is made from cricket flour, but because it combines great nutritional values with amazing taste. Here at Eat Grub (or Grub for short) we love to share the benefits of eating insects with you, and couldn’t think of a more perfect way to do just that.

The Eat Grub Bar is made from organic dark chocolate, mango, desiccated coconut, pumpkin seeds, honey and, of course, cricket flour!

These wholesome ingredients combine to provide you with a tasty, nutritious and natural energy boost.

It’s been a long time in development and now we are just about ready…with a little help from you.

So, why crickets

Apart from the fact that they taste great (sometimes compared to nuts, sometimes shrimp, and sometimes nutty shrimp) they pack a real nutritional punch, and are also kind to our lovely planet.

Crickets are commonly eaten around the world. And for good reason too: they are high in protein, calcium and iron, and turn resources into energy a lot more effectively compared to a cow…or a pig…or a chicken.

But don’t take our word for it, just look at this colourful infographic:

And the rest of the ingredients…

We didn’t want the other ingredients feeling left out so we thought we’d let you know why, along with cricket flour, they make an awesome team:

  • Dark chocolate: one of the best antioxidants out there, keeping you healthy on the outside and happy on the inside
  • Dried Mango: a great source of Vitamin A to keep your vision eagle-eyed and boost your defence
  • Desiccated coconut: keeping your brain function up and your cholesterol down
  • Pumpkin seeds: what don’t they do? Boosting immune system, reducing blood pressure, balancing those essential acids…the list goes on

The plan…

It’s pretty simple really: ever since our sell-out pop-up events in 2014, we’ve been single-minded in our mission to convince the world that insects truly are the food of the future.

And that is why we’ve been working hard developing the Eat Grub Bar. We’ve done the branding, found a wonderful company to produce them, and now we just need a little helping hand from you and the Kickstarter community to make it a reality.

Once our goal is met (a big thanks in advance!), production will start immediately and the bars will be in your hand by April 2016.

We’d love for you to be part of the journey to educate minds and taste buds; insects are the future – be one of the first to get on board!

Grub who?

Grub was started in 2013 by two friends, Shami and Neil, who for different reasons believed that insects could and should be introduced to the Western diet.

Yes, it started as a drunken conversation but even when sober the next morning it still seemed like a great idea. Insects are tasty, nutritious and sustainable…what’s not to love!?

They paired up with chef Seb Holmes and hosted several insect-inspired pop-up restaurants. They were the first to sell edible and cookable insects in UK supermarket and have been busy developing delicious snacks ever since.

They are not stopping with the Eat Grub Bar; they have just finished writing the ‘Ultimate insect cook book’ (to be released April 2016) and plan on launching UK’s first cricket-for-food farm early next year.

NB. It should be mentioned that while insects are a great food, if you are allergic to shellfish, you may be allergic to insects as well.
