I’m the founder and owner of Krumville Bake Shop. I was born and raised on Italy’s Adriatic Coast in Emilia Romagna. Since an early age baking and cooking was something I loved doing and was very passionate about, but never my wildest dreams I considered it as a possible career until decades later I was diagnosed with celiac disease, which, for those who may not know, is an autoimmune disorder triggered by the ingestion of gluten, a protein found in Wheat, Rye and Barley.
I pursued an education in arts and photography and I moved to California at age 20 to attend Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. Working as a photographer and print producer for 18 years in LA & New York was an exciting career. It taught me how to run a business, how to work hard, and how to train yourself to set goals and seek opportunities in life.
In 2009, a new path opened up for me with my celiac diagnosis. It sounds counter-intuitive, but the diagnosis changed my life in a really positive way. I started eating better following the new gluten-free diet and feeling better immediately.
I realized right away there was a big disconnect with gluten-free products and fresh baked goods. I trained myself to bake without gluten by sourcing alternative grains, taking classes, and developing products that could be enjoyed by a gluten-free consumer. I had a vision and soon enough Krumville Bake Shop was born. Today I receive lovely emails from customers thanking me for making delicious pastries breads and cakes. I must admit reading those emails at the end of the day fills my heart with happiness!
When I’m not in the bakery in Brooklyn, or delivering the goods around town, I love to enjoy nature in the Catskills, make things and share this wonderful life with my husband Danny and my kitty Peaches.
Launched in 2012 Krumville Bake Shop is a small batch gluten-free wholesale bakery that specializes in baking scrumptious treats that everyone can enjoy. We cater to the gluten free community but soon enough learned that our goodies are widely enjoyed by all! Our commercial kitchen is 100% gluten free and we are based in Brooklyn, NY.
All our creations are inspired by my Italian and Dutch heritage. In 2012, I started Krumville Bake Shop by offering cookies and few muffins. Since then I’ve expanded my repertoire by offering many other gluten-free specialties, including Focaccia breads, Quiches, Pies, Chocolate Almond Amaretti and many cookies. This year we launched layer cakes which we can now ship nationally!
Three years of getting to know the gluten free customer has taught me a lot. We participated for two years at Smorgasburg, an exhilarating outdoor Brooklyn market, exposing Krumville to so many people. I quickly learned cons and pros of owning a bakery, wholesaling to local retail stores (Dean and Deluca) and supplying coffee shops and restaurants.
In the past year and half we have been working with a lot of online retailers like Farmigo, Amazon Fresh and Farm to People. Through them I’ve learned that our big opportunity to reach a wider audience is to grow online. We’ve learned that the gluten-free consumer can’t be targeted by location, gender or income level, and to achieve better profit margins we need to step up our internet presence.
This loan we’ll help us to get our foot in the door to the big wide world of the internet. You’ll help us be able to afford online advertising and press opportunities. As well, we really need to buy a larger freezer to keep more inventory on hand.
Baking equipment & inventory: $4000.00
SEO website optimization and online advertising: $3000.00
PR, & press (ie. social media support): $3000.00
We hope you’ll become part our beautiful gluten-free bakery and help us grow!
