One Planet Granola Inc.: Living consciously and feeding your soul with thoughtfully produced products

My name is Sandra Madanat and I grew up here in the Bay Area. I’ve been fortunate to live all over from South San Francisco to Marin county where I went to high school, to now being in Oakland where my company is based. I first began this company in my mother’s café and have many supportive people around me to motivate me to follow my passion at a young age.

I am a first generation American Jordanian. It is extremely uncommon for a women of my culture and age to not go the traditional route but to follow my passion of being an entrepreneur. Why not take action now and help the planet while we are here. It is our responsibility for our own actions and I am committed to running a successful company that gives back to communities all over the world.

One Planet Food’s owners, Sandra and Rana Madanat, dynamic mother-daughter duo behind One Planet Foods share the belief system of living consciously and feeding your soul with thoughtfully produced products. Rana spends her time in the kitchen, creating nutrient-dense products while I head up the business end. I have been leading the charge to gain awareness and shelf space for One Planet’s line of granolas. We both share the belief that the organic ingredients in their products strongly reflect in their community’s choice to live consciously. Consumers want clean, fresh and natural ingredients and also want to know where those ingredients come from. We started in our café from the love of our customers and our customers are what motivate us everyday.

We never knew what we were getting ourselves into but the biggest challenge we would say are the growing pains of growing each stage of the business with limited funds. Cash flow with hard terms in the beginning of our business and lack of market experience put a lot of pressure on the two of us but we worked past it and are thriving forward.

I am proud of building something from scratch, working beside my mother and getting our product on Whole Foods shelves.

Promoting One Planet in the Northern California region with specific targeted marketing campaigns through new marketing channels is our primary goal.
Having our product in Whole Food allows us to brand and market our granola to a wider audience. This will help us achieve a 30% growth in overall sales volume.
