RudduR Dance Goes to Africa: RudduR Dance has been invited to present at the 2016 Ouagadougou International Dance Festival (FIDO) in Burkina Faso Africa

RudduR Dance has the distinct honor of being invited as American dance representatives to the 2016 Ouagadougou International Dance Festival (FIDO) in Burkina Faso, Africa. FIDO is the brainchild of world renowned dancer choreographer Irène Tassembédo. A nationally and internationally acclaimed figure in the dance world, she brings together multicultural dancers and musicians from around the world to disperse styles world-wide as artists return home. Thanks to Rapid Response, a project of American Dance Abroad, we were able to accept this amazing invitation. This campaign is to raise the remaining funds.

This is an incredible opportunity in our inaugural season.  It will develop our international exposure and build our brand and reputation as a high caliber contemporary dance company that gives back to the community. It is our intention to offer free workshops in ballet, contemporary, and aerial silk to the local community.

RudduR Dance’s mission is to fuse ballet, contemporary, theatricality and oftentimes aerial artistry, with a seamlessly provocative score to create performances that hold a mirror to society. Artistic director and resident choreographer Christopher Rudd guides this mission. Rudd’s objective is to investigate different themes of the human condition, with an emphasis on what unites us as a species. His goal is to leave his audiences pensive, reflective and entertained. Cultural ambassadorship is a vital tenet of RudduR Dance.  It is our desire to promote awareness of and appreciation for American art and culture while furthering international understanding by fostering cultural exchange.

Since starting RudduR Dance, Mr. Rudd has completed a residency at STREB Lab for Action Mechanics.  He was named one of 2015’s emerging artists and awarded The GO! Emerging Artists Commissioning Program grant.  RudduR Dance also presented work at 2015 Norte Maar’s Dance at Socrates, The 2015 Dance Gallery Festival, and The BlakTinX series at BAAD! Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance. RudduR Dance is honored to be the first recipient of The New World School of the Arts Alumni Foundation’s Inspiration Grant and was a finalist for a Knight Foundation Grant.  Additionally, RudduR Dance had its first international presentation at the CoCo Dance Festival in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
