Personal Story

We are Delaila and Lyndsay, both Doctors of Physical Therapy and the owners of Vital Step Physical Therapy & Fitness located in West Philadelphia/University City. We are very passionate about making an impact in our local community because we have spent many years here as clinicians, residents, and graduates from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (also located in West Philly). Providing pro-bono health services and physical therapy in our community has really opened our eyes to health disparities and lack of accessibility to health care with minorities and low income families.

We both come from an athletic and performing arts background which has contributed to our passion for fitness, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle habits. Personal experiences with close family members suffering and recovering from conditions such as stroke, cancer, diabetes, and hip replacements has inspired and shaped us to become compassionate health care providers.

It is a very rewarding experience for us to help others become independent, healthy, and functional. Being able to walk or run again, not having to experience back or knee pain anymore, or being able to “live again” as many of our patients would say, inspires us. We believe opening our own physical therapy practice to serve our neighbors will create a healthier community and an overall better quality of life for those in it.

Business Description

Vital Step Physical Therapy and Fitness is a start-up direct access outpatient practice in West Philadelphia/University City. We decided to start our business in the fall of 2014 because we wanted to create a patient centered physical therapy practice with a complementary focus on health and fitness. Our mission is to provide our clients with the vital steps necessary to reach a level of maximal recovery and independence in a supportive, compassionate environment, and cost effective manner. We also strive to educate the community and raise awareness for healthy lifestyles and disease prevention and management. Our customers are the members of our community including the aging, adolescent and adult population in the West Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Our primary client base includes people with musculoskeletal, orthopedic, neurological, cardiovascular issues and/or any general health conditions where our services are medically necessary.

Our biggest challenge at the moment is obtaining financing to cover some of our start up expenses including equipment, renovations, and working capital.

Our main goal for the future is to expand our facility in order to serve more clients in need of rehabilitation and fitness services.

We are proud that Vital Step Physical Therapy and Fitness is a health provider for an under served community where we are in high demand, where we are able to make an impact on a community, and where we can help alleviate health disparities.

What is the purpose of this loan?

The $5,000 will provide us with working capital for daily operations ($1,500), purchase new equipment ($2,300), & renovations/marketing ($1,200).

With these purchases, we will be able hire new employees during our opening months, boost our marketing, increase our revenue and profit, and provide a much needed service to the community.

This loan will greatly help Vital Step Physical Therapy & Fitness in our first few months of opening. This loan will assist the owners in reaching their goals of independent practice and serving their community.
