What Women Want 2.0 – a historic social survey and the world’s most powerful conversation about women’s needs, wants and attitudes

We want to create a historic social survey and the world’s most powerful conversation to capture and share the views of 1 million British women and make change irresistible to government, businesses and society.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

• The largest ever survey of what British women want.
• 20 years ago, over 10,000 women filled about postcards that asked them what women want as part of campaign backed by Anita Roddick, to share a female vision of society.
• We are rerunning the campaign on its 20th anniversary to listen to and make heard the opinions of 1m British women.
• We are going to use a ground-breaking digital tool to generate a level of data and insights that wasn’t possible in 1996, to help make the changes that we’re still waiting for 20 years on.
• Financial independence from crowdfunding gives us independence in using the data for maximum social impact. This is a grassroots campaign for women.

WHY WE NEED YOU

• We need funds to launch and run the first stage of our campaign, which is to recruit 1m women before we launch the survey.

What is the social/environmental problem/issue that this project will address?

The fact that while women may have won equal rights, women were far from having equal influence in society.  We believe that more diverse thinking will help society tackle a range of problems it is facing from the economy to climate change.

Can you give us some statistics on this problem?

“Women’s strength and vision are constantly underrated and often ignored… Now is the time to go forward to action these desires, hopes and dreams. THE WORLD NEEDS THE POWER OF WOMEN.” Anita Roddick, 1996.

Politics

Only 29% of MPs are women (2015)

Media

In a typical month, 78% of newspaper articles are written by men, 72% of Question Time contributors are men and 84% of reporters and guests on Radio 4’s Today show are men. (The Guardian 5/12/11)

Employment

The gender pay gap in the UK is 14.2%. (The Fawcett Society, 2015).

Business

Women account for just 23.5% of FTSE 100 board members. (The Cranfield report, 2015)

What is your solution?

A historic social survey that will be the biggest ever showcase of women’s needs, wants and attitudes.

This March we will launch What Women Want 2.0 and this time we aim to reach over one million British women.

To carry out this social survey we will be using the groundbreaking digital platform Appgree

With Appgree, millions of women can share their ideas and reach consensus in a matter of seconds, thanks to their simple yet extremely powerful statistics-based algorithm DemoRank.

We will share their web and mobile application to allow communities of all sizes and interests to join our conversation about what women want.  We will combine this information with the postcards we receive.

The findings will be shared with media, politicians, businesses and charities to allow them to create social change based on rich and robust data and insights – what women really want.

How will you deliver this?

We already have our technical partner, Appgree, onboard.

We have a team of young volunteers ready to help activate the campaign next year.

We are lining up a variety of partners who will help us create real social change with the findings – these include charities, not-for-profits, businesses and other organisations.

We’ve been working with a steering group of influential women to shape the campaign and are currently reaching out to over 1,000 influential women across all sections of life and culture to help promote the campaign; from the arts to sport, fashion to academia, business to music.  But we want this campaign to be for everyone, which is why we are looking to crowd-fund it.
